Nevan Contempo uvádí výstavní projekt Martina Kubáta, umělce, který je primárně veřejnosti známý jako nezaměnitelný ilustrátor, dlouhodobě vytvářející tvář knižních edic nakladatelství Fra, ale především jako tvůrce mnoha výrazných autorských knih. K prezentaci své tvorby formou výstav dosud přistupoval málokdy, a to s určitým nedůvěřivým ostychem. V kontextu provozu současného umění se jeho práce čas od času objevily, například na Bienále mladých ZVON 2010 nebo na kolektivní výstavě Erotická Revue v kutnohorském GASK v roce 2011. Současná výstava může být jen další výjimkou z pravidla, ale vychází z přesvědčení v sílu Kubátových kreseb v kombinaci s autorovou schopností výtvařet jejich dokonalý situační, performativní ekvivalent. Individuální prožitek každého návštěvníka vernisáže je založen na momentu rozhodnutí. Prozradit nebo dokonce jen naznačit na tomto místě jen o málo více znamená, riskovat ochuzení čtenáře o pointu, možnost autenticky projít pečlivě inscenovanou situací. Lze pouze konstatovat, že žádné z rozhodnutí není chybou, jejich kombinace by asi znamenala ideální řešení, ale jak již to v životě bývá... není to možné!

Martin Kubát (1981) vyrůstal v severních Čechách, v rodině otce vyučeného v malířství porcelánu, který je také celoživotním malířem hyperbarokních aktů, v rodině matky, chemické laborantky, skvěle manuálně zručné a nápadité, po boku sestry, nadané k vidění fantaskních a humorných světů, z které se stala animátorka. Vystudoval Vysokou školu umělecko-průmyslovou v Praze. Z jeho autorských knih jmenujme Choroby Monster, Tot McDie, Můráci, Trip, Je večer, vypusťte Čerta! (Nejkrásnější kniha roku ČR, Fra 2009), Čistka ( Nejkrásnější kniha roku ČR, Fra 2012), Před půlnocí (Nejkrásnější kniha roku ČR, Arbor vitae 2014). Spolupracuje s kulturním čtrnáctideníkem A2, nakladatelstvím a café Fra.

Nevan Contempo is pleased to announce an exhibition of the work of Martin Kubát. Martin is an artist best known as a uniquely gifted illustrator and the person responsible for the house style of the Fra publishing company, as well as the creator of many distinctive artist’s books. He has opted to exhibit infrequently and usually with a bashful reluctance. His work appears from time to time on the contemporary art scene, for instance at the ZVON 2010 Biennale of Young Czech Artists and the joint exhibition Erotic Review organised in the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region (GASK) in Kutná Hora in 2011. This present exhibition may only be yet another exception to the rule, but it is based on a belief in the power of Kubát’s drawings combined with his ability to create a perfect situational, performative equivalent. The individual experience of every visitor to the private view is based on a momentary decision. To disclose or even simply insinuate so much as a smidgeon more means taking the risk that the reader will be deprived of the point, the possibility of authentically experiencing the carefully staged situation. It simply remains to say that none of the decisions is an error. A combination of them would perhaps be the ideal solution, but as is so often the case in life... this isn’t possible!

Martin Kubát (1981) spent his childhood in Northern Bohemia. His father is a qualified porcelain painter and lifelong painter of hyper-baroque nudes, his mother is a chemical laboratory technician and manually highly skilled, and his sister is gifted with an eye for fantastical and humorous worlds and is an animator. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. His artist’s books included Choroby Monster, Tot McDie, Můráci, Trip, Je večer, vypusťte Čerta! (Most Beautiful Book of the Year CR, Fra 2009), Čistka (Most Beautiful Book of the Year CR, Fra 2012), Před půlnocí (Most Beautiful Book of the Year CR, Arbor vitae 2014). He collaborates with the cultural biweekly A2 and the Fra publishing house and café.
